As a Kindergartener there hasn't been many extracurricular things Xavier has been able to get involved in at school. In the Spring they sent home information for kids to enter the Science Expo. For students in K and first grades it was optional. For the Kindergarteners they wanted them to do more science exploration through presentations, dioramas, collections, or a simple demonstration. Xavier was all about participating. It was hard for him to pick just one project to do. Finally, Xavier chose to do a dinosaur diorama of the Cretaceous Period. He worked so hard on this project. It was so fun to see how excited he got when it was all complete. And it was a great opportunity for me to help show him how to plan out a project and work on it a little bit at a time, so that he wasn't doing it all at the last minute. Not only was this a science learning experience but also a time management learning experience.
The completed work! Xavier used tissue paper for the trees, the vines, and the shrubs. He used egg cartons and painted them black to look like rocks. He made salt dough and painted it brown for the ground. He used tin foil and painted it with colored glue to make his river. He used cotton balls for the clouds. The dinosaurs were printed on card stock and then Xavier colored them.

Gavin cheering for his brother! This was such a fun experience for Xavier to see the kinds of projects he gets to do as he gets older. Hands on learning is the best!
