xavier's star wars party was a lot of fun to plan and execute.  i got into it probably more than the kids did on party day.  
there were a few hiccups the morning of the party so i had to improvise a bit on the decorations.  
we rented a room at our community center.  this was the best thing we ever did because it removed the stress of cleaning my house before the party and the unknown destruction that could have occurred with 14 plus kids in the house after the party.
i wanted to give myself plenty of time to set up the morning of the party.  as we were leaving our house tim went to lock our front door only to discover the key would not come out of the dead bolt.  he had to break it off just to get part of it out.  we have half the key and the other half is in our dead bolt. subtract 10 minutes from prep time.
then when we got to the community we immediately realized there was an unmistakable number of cars in the parking lots.  saturday sporting events were at their peak this weekend. we could not find parking anywhere!  after driving around for at least 5 minutes i decided to check in, unload, and then worry about parking.  luckily, we were able to drive to the rear of the building that is technically for staff only to park and unload.  subtract at least 10 more minutes.


now that i have at least 20 less minutes to decorate i got to work.  i was practically running around the room the entire time trying to set everything up before guests started to arrive.  my wonderful friends karina and conni came early to help set up. without their help i wouldn't have been able to pull it off.


i wanted to put up a few more things, but time did not allow for it.  this is what i was able to get done.

the banner was inspired by the star fighter wings.  it's supposed to be the side view of the wing.

the back drop was a black table cloth with glitter star stickers attached to it, obviously to resemble outer space.

i chose black and green for the main color scheme. the black balls are supposed to symbolize the dark side and the death star.  the green is obviously for the good side and it's also xavier's favorite light saber color.

i can't take credit for the table settings.  i found an online tutorial on how to make the r2d2 cups and the light saber napkin holders.  they were so cool i just had to use them for xavier's party.

i made table tents for all of the food.  the menu consisted of the following: 

1. an epic cake, courtesy of walmart.

2. yoda soda: a combination of lime sherbet and sprite.

3. padawan punch: kool aid fruit punch 

4. c3po cheese and crackers

5. vader veggies

6. fruit sabers: pineapple, green grape, and strawberry kabobs

7. imperial pizza: courtesy of little caesars

 last, but not least, the invitation for the party was a light saber.

in the past i have done a couple pop-ups, this year i made the card so you could pull on the green part to bring the light saber to a full extension.  


well, that is that!  i can now get a little more sleep at night until next year's party.  may the force be with you until then!
