Every Friday Xavier and I walk to the community center for his sports class. The class is set up in a large gym with 4 stations. One station has basketballs and basketball hoops. Another station has hockey sticks, hockey balls (no pucks), and a net. The third station has t-ball stands, bats, balls, and bases to run. The fourth station has soccer balls and a soccer net. In the middle there is a big circle of cones with bean bags. This class is designed for 1 1/2 to 3 year olds and their parents. It's completely free play- no actual instruction from the coach. We have a blast! Xavier loves coach Billy and looks forward to this day every week.
Today was just like any other Friday. We were playing our sports and having fun. Then at the end of the class Coach Billy rounds up all the kids to the center of the gym for stretches. Xavier had taken several trips to the drinking fountain during class and by the end had a shirt that was covered in water. He decided he didn't want to wear it anymore. So he just took it off. Leave it up to my kid to make a statement. As we were sitting in the circle doing our stretches I realize my kid is half-naked. It's one thing for Xavier to take his pants off at home or run around in his diaper at home. But it just feels a little odd when we're in a public setting and all the other kids are fully clothed. Kids will be kids, I know, but I just had to sit back and laugh. Xavier definitely drums to his own beat.
